Holiday wrap-up & Nursery update

I hope you all had a nice holiday.  I'm back in action now after a wonderful Christmas celebration with my family.  I didn't anticipate ditching my blog for this many days but we ended up extending our holiday travels due to a death in my husband's family.  (RIP Grandpa, we are relieved that you aren't suffering any longer).  This was the first year my son really got the idea of what Christmas means.  (and no I don't mean the birth of baby Jesus)  I mean gifts, gifts, Santa, overindulgence, and more gifts!  He had a blast and it was fun to see him so excited but honestly at times I don't even think he knew what to do with it all and how to act.  I'm really big on manners and making sure he thanks people and hopes he seems grateful for things so there were a few moments when I wanted to crawl under the tree and hide.  One gift my parents gave him was a gift bag with two shirts in it.  He pulls each shirt out and spikes it on the floor and looks in the bag and says "there's nothing in this one!"  Christmas really can bring out the best in kids can't it??

So now we are back and our big focus is finishing up our little girl's Nursery.  Luckily my husband has off until after New Years so he is painting the Nursery for me and helping me get some things hung up and put away.  Here are a few photos of our old Nursery, what it looks like now, and a few other things I'm working on.  I'm due February 28th so my goal is to bust out all of these little projects I've been talking about and blogging about for so long.  It's not that I'm lazy, it's just that I never can seem to get stuff done while taking care of my 3 year old.  He is always up in my business so it is hard to really get time for anything that involves paint, hot glue, or tools without letting him use them too.

This is what my son's Nursery looked like.  Even though we knew we were having a boy I wanted to keep it gender neutral so we could use it if we were to also have a girl.  Little did I know at the time that I would be sick of it by now and definitely ready for something more sophisticated.  I remember at the time looking for bedding that wasn't necessarily a theme.  I liked polka dots and stripes together but I just couldn't find what I was looking for without spending a fortune for custom bedding.  As you can see the room is tiny so I tried to keep it pretty simple.

I liked the idea of this rub on lettering because once my son got big enough to stand up I didn't have to worry about him pulling anything down on himself.

Here is what the Nursery looks like today.  My husband is going to paint the top white so we have a nice clean slate to work with.  It's frightening to think how much we have to do in such a short time!

Today I wrapped this cardboard letter in yarn which will be hung on the wall in a collage with a few other items.  I've seen letters like this wrapped a few different ways (some fully covered and some where the yarn is a little more random)  I liked the idea of having some of the cardboard showing so I wasn't too particular with the way the yarn was wrapped.

Another project that I'm excited about are these shelves we've been working on.  We are essentially adding a little closet area when you first walk into the room to hang clothes and store shoes since we are so limited on space in our home.  My husband currently has his clothes in the Nursery closet so we are trying to spare his area from being taken over by baby stuff.
This is just a little sneak peak and doesn't really do the shelves justice.  I think once they are hung with the clothes on them they will look really neat.  If you are having a hard time visualizing you can see where I got the idea for this here

  1. So so sorry about the loss of your family member. Always a relief to see someone stop suffering though. I love your baby girl's nursery. So sweet. Are you still doing a starburst mirror or no? Just darling.
