Easy Lego Artwork

Check out this clever lego artwork.  So cool, right?  This idea comes from Theresa who is the founder of the mom's group I'm in, Chesapeake Mommies.  She is a busy mom of 4 and wanted something easy and inexpensive to put on the walls in her sons' room.  The best part is, Brady, Theresa's 8 year old son helped her and it only took them a half an hour for each one.

Theresa bought two shadow box frames from Target for around $8 each and they just used legos they had around the house.  (apparently when you have 3 boys you accumulate a lot of legos over time!)  Depending on the thickness of the legos you may need to put a second layer just to keep them in place.  They were careful not to put two of the same colors beside each other and the boys wanted lots of blue since that is the main color of their room.  It was neat to see how the boys were taking pride in  this new addition to their room.  Thank you Theresa for sharing this project!

The importance of ordering samples

After being in our home for 5 years I've decided it is time to give our Bedroom a little face lift.  Since I've been living with a lot of creams and tans I'm ready for a fresh start.  The plan is to bring in a lot of white through bedding, a white upholstered headboard and white sheer window treatments.  To add in some color I've decided to go with navy and white prints for pillows and upholstery for a chest I have at the bottom of the bed.  I was so excited to find these two fabrics online at Calico Corners.  I love the way they look together and thought they would be the perfect focal point for the room.  I took a trip to my local Calico Corners store to see them together and confirm that the colors were similar. Unfortunately the Kalah Blue sample was checked out by another customer but the salesperson informed me the background was more of a natural instead of white.  Even though I know you can't count on looking at a picture on the computer screen for color confirmation I was really surprised it wasn't white.  Check out their picture online.  Wouldn't you guess this fabric is blue and white?

SULTANA LATTICE - IMAN HOME FABRICS LUNA
The Sultana Lattice however was everything I'd hoped for and more.  The background was the white I was looking for and I was pleasantly surprised to find out the blue had a velvety feel.  It gives the fabric a lot of dimension and will look fantastic on my upholstered chest at the end of our bed.

I was really holding out hope that this "natural" background would look good with the white bedding so I ordered a sample and was very disappointed when this is what showed up.

Although I LOVE the fabric it just won't work for this project. I also realized the scale of this pattern might have been too big for the pillows I was looking to cover. Although I'm sad this won't work out it definitely goes to show how important it is to order samples when possible before purchasing things online. Lucky for us the internet offers an endless supply of decorating options we wouldn't otherwise have if we were to just shop in our local stores.  However it definitely is important when designing a space to be able to see as many things as you can in person.  (or have the option of returning things if you are ordering online)  Since different lighting can change the way a color looks it is important to look at things like color samples, flooring, fabrics, etc. all together in the space you are designing with the lighting you will be using.  As for my pillow fabric I guess it is back to the drawing board...

Lockers aren't just for school anymore

Lockers can be a great addition to a child's room.  They help add a youthful and somewhat funky vibe and lockers are durable and offered in many different styles and colors.  See how you can incorporate them into a space with these great examples below.  I've also listed some sources as to where you can find these bad boys.

Adventure Aquarium

Happy Friday everyone.  We took a trip last weekend with some friends and their kids to the Adventure Aquarium in Camden New Jersey.  Although we have the National Aquarium in Baltimore practically in our backyard we chose to trek up to New Jersey because the Adventure Aquarium has all of these neat hands on areas for kids.  They get to pet sharks, stingrays, starfish, and a bunch of other sea creatures.  It really was a lot of fun so if you happen to be in the area I recommend it.  They are offering $15 admissions now until November 23rd if you buy your tickets ahead of time.  Check this link for details.

Here are just a few pictures from our adventure:

We only had one meltdown that day!  (note to self: Don't make your kid get their picture taken somewhere they don't want to because this is what you end up with!)

Definitely take an extra shirt if you decide to go.  I didn't think of it until we were there and the kids were pretty wet from splashing in all of the water.

Oh-So-Cool Modern Cribs

I'm happy to have Susi from Design Shuffle Guest Posting for me today.  Although this is a post on modern cribs I love all of the bedding in these great photos as well.  Thanks Susi for sharing some of your passion for Interior Design with us today!

Hi all, I’m Susi, a writer for Design Shuffle, a fabulous community for design lovers to share inspiration, showcase their design projects and network. I am so lucky to write about gorgeous interiors and décor. I'm happy to be writing for Chic Spaces for Little Faces because interior design for kids' spaces is just as important as other rooms in the home.  And kid's spaces can be so cool; even cribs can be cool. There are a lot of options for modern cribs these days; it's pretty amazing. I'm happy to share 8 oh-so-cool modern cribs and nursery decorating ideas with you and your readers.

Modern Cribs
Dwell Studio via
Dwell Studio, the people who design the chicest modern bed linens for both baby and adult, have a line of modern baby furniture that sets the standard.  Love the x-form base on the Century crib.

Modern Cribs
The Glow via
Modern white and clean lines make this crib a stand out. Love the subtle arches between the slats that soften the overall look.

Modern Cribs
La Dolce Vita via
Love the natural wood and lines of this modern crib.  The alternating vertical and horizontal slats create an interesting pattern that is a nice break from the typical vertical slats of a crib. This one is stylish enough to use in many interior design plans.

Modern Cribs
Babble via
The oval shape of this modern crib works well with the Mid-Century modern pieces in the room.  The oval shape is definitely a modern twist on the classic crib.

Modern Cribs
Twolia via
Gray is a great neutral so why not use it in the nursery too? Modern lines and chic gray make this crib one of our favorites. Could be used in either a girl's or boy's nursery.

Modern Cribs

The clean lines of a modern crib are the perfect background for colorful modern crib linens and baby quilts. And I adore the kid size Ghost chairs!

Modern Cribs
DecorPad via
Perhaps a bit too modern, this ultra chic crib has Plexiglas sides with circle cut outs. What do you think? Love? Hate? Will it be tucked away in your interior design ideas file?

old crib = desk

How brilliant is this idea to turn an old drop side crib into a desk for little ones?  I'm in love with this idea and I have a perfect crib to use for it.  (oh wait, I forgot, I am going to need that for another baby come February)  Ok maybe in a few years...
