transforming the dresser

A while back I posted here about how I wanted to give our Hemnes dresser a makeover for the Nursery.  I definitely wanted to do some type of stencil but it took me awhile to make a decision so I just ordered it the other day.  This is what the dresser looks like today:

Hemnes dresser: pre-makeover

Here are my plans for this baby:

Furniture & Wall Stencil Pattern Zebra Stripes Border or Allover Stencil for DIY Wall Decor
I will be adding this stencil from Royal Design Stencils to the drawer fronts.

I chose Valspar's 5006-9B Frosty which is a medium turquoise.

This Valspar Signature Colors paint has the primer and paint all in one.  I was a little concerned about stenciling right on top of the existing finish without priming first.  The finish has a little bit of a gloss to it and since I'm not planning on re-painting the whole dresser I knew I'd never get the background color (which is a little bit of an off-white) to match the rest of the dresser.  Once I found this paint and primer all-in-one I figure it is the best way to go.

I have a few ideas for the hardware.  I want some type of red knob or pull but I"m having a hard time finding exactly what I want.  My first idea were these pulls from Anthropology:

Ripe Melon Pull

If only they came in red...

Ceramic Melon Knob
I also love something like this but I don't think the red is bright enough.  This is more of a melon color and every other red in the room is pretty bright.

Red Basic Ceramic Knobs, Set of 4 | World Market
These are a possibility from World Market.  Still not my favorite but the color would work.

My other option is to use this fabric covered knobs tutorial from A Field Journal.  I could use the existing knobs I have and find a fabric that would look good with the stencil.  I think I'll wait until I get the stencil complete before I make that decision.

Happy Weekend Everyone!  Make sure to check back on Monday for details on a fun Valentine's Day themed giveaway I'm doing with wild8designs and lilypad & meatball.

  1. I painted my little girl's entire room "Frosty" three years ago. I LOVE IT!
